About the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is the oldest American-born Protestant denomination. It was formed on the frontier during the second Great Awakening as the spirit of religious revivalism swept through the still young country known as the United States. Early founders like Barton W. Stone and Alexander Campbell sought to establish a church free of institutional authority where individual thought and belief would be valued. The confession of faith in Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior, is our sole test of fellowship. Likewise, Disciples congregations celebrate the Lord's Supper every Sunday. The table is an open table for us all. That means that all Christians are invited to respond to Christ's invitation to commune at the table. Baptism is by immersion, although we recognize the validity of other forms of baptism for transferring members.
About our Symbol
The red Chalice was chosen as a symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1969.
It reflects the importance of the Communion at the heart of our worship.
The X-shaped cross is the cross of Saint Andrew and is a reminder of the ministry of each person and the importance of evangelism.
